SocialOrbit+ Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-08-10

SocialOrbit+ is a nostalgic social networking project. This policy explains what information we store and how we use it. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

  • Account data: username, email address, password (stored as a one-way hash — we cannot read your password).
  • Profile data: display name, blurbs, interests, mood, status, music, photos/URLs you provide, custom HTML/CSS, and similar profile fields.
  • Social activity: comments, forum posts, public chat messages, private messages, friend connections, blogs, and bulletins.
  • Technical data: session cookies for login, approximate activity timestamps (last login / last seen), and a profile view counter.

2. How we use information

  • To operate SocialOrbit+ features (profiles, friends, messaging, forums, chat, blogs, bulletins).
  • To keep you signed in securely and show online/active status.
  • To protect the community (rate limits, spam/abuse prevention, security logging).

3. What is public vs private

  • Public (or visible to other members): your profile page, comments you leave, forum posts, public chat, blogs, and bulletins shared with friends.
  • Private: private messages between you and another member; your password hash; your email (not shown on profiles).
  • Custom HTML/CSS on your profile is visible to anyone who views your page — don’t put secrets there.

4. Cookies & sessions

We use an HTTP-only session cookie to keep you logged in. Sessions are stored server-side. Clearing cookies or logging out ends your session on that browser.

5. Data retention & deletion

Your content remains while your account exists. If you want your account and associated content removed, contact the site operator (or use an account-deletion feature if provided). Backups or logs may retain limited data for a short period for security and recovery.

6. Security

We use hashed passwords, CSRF protection on forms, rate limiting, input sanitization, and parameterized database queries. No system is perfectly secure — please use a unique password and be careful what you post.

7. Children’s privacy

SocialOrbit+ is intended for users old enough to consent to online services in their region. If you believe a child’s information was submitted, contact the site operator to request removal.

8. Third parties

If you link external images or media by URL, those hosts may see requests from visitors’ browsers. We do not sell your personal information.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. Continued use of SocialOrbit+ after changes means you accept the updated policy. The “Last updated” date above will change when we revise it.

10. Contact

Questions about privacy? Reach the site operator through the SocialOrbit+ about page or the contact method published with this deployment.
